9 TO 5, RUMORS, FORBIDDEN BROADWAY & More Set for Theatre Jacksonville in 2012-2013

Theatre Jacksonville has announced its theatrical offerings for the 2012-2013 season. Full season details include:

Is He Dead?
Adapted by David Ives
Based on the play by Mark Twain

August 17 - September 1, 2012

Jean-Francois Millet, a young painter of genius, is in love with Marie Leroux but in debt to a villainous picture-dealer, Bastien Andre. Andre forecloses on Millet, threatening debtor's prison unless Marie marries him. Millet realizes that the only way he can pay his debts and keep Marie from marrying Andre is to die, as it is only dead painters who achieve fame and fortune. Millet fakes his death and prospers, all while passing himself off as his own sister,
the Widow Tillou. Now a rich "widow," he must find a way to get out of a dress, return to life, and marry Marie. As the riotous scheme unfolds and crazy complications ensue, Twain poses daring questions about fame, greed and the value of art, poking his signature, mischievous fun at everyone involved.

Rumors
By Neil Simon

October 19 - November 3, 2012

Several couples arrive at an elegant mansion outside of New York City, expecting a lavish anniversary party but instead discover that there are no servants, the hostess is missing, and the host – the deputy mayor of New York City - has shot himself through the earlobe. It's a race against time as they desperately try to put the pieces together before the other guests show up. As the confusions and mis-communications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.

The Triangle Factory Project
by Christopher Piehler in collaboration with Scott Alan Evans

March 1 - March 16, 2013

March 25, 1911. 4:45 P.M. A fire breaks out in the Triangle Waist Factory in downtown NY. In the space of twenty-eight minutes, the fire is under control, but 146 people, mainly young immigrant girls, have died. The Triangle Factory Fire Project uses eyewitness reports, court transcripts and other archival material to create this new dramatic account of the historic fire and the social upheaval that followed. It culminates in the manslaughter trial of the owners, Isaac Harris and Max Blanck, whose shocking acquittal inspires new outrage across New York and the entire country, the repercussions of which shaped social, political and economic policies for decades to come.

Tea and Sympathy
By Robert Anderson

April 19 - May 4, 2013

In 1953 a new playwright, Robert Anderson, stepped into the Broadway limelight with Tea and Sympathy, a play about a lonely, misunderstood boarding school student. Only a sympathetic act of compassion by the wife of the headmaster gives young Tom the courage to grow into a man. The Broadway production was a huge hit starring Deborah Kerr who later starred in the critically acclaimed film version.
